FSA & HSA payment
Using your Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account for Lucyd prescription glasses.
Lucyd prescription eyewear is FSA / HSA eligible — they count as a medical / vision purchase under IRS rules. Here’s how to use your benefits.
What’s eligible
| Item | FSA / HSA eligible? |
|---|---|
| Lucyd frame with prescription lenses | ✓ Yes |
| Lucyd frame without prescription lenses | Usually no (most plans don’t cover non-Rx eyewear) |
| Lucyd Shift / Lucyd Blueshift / photochromic upgrades on an Rx order | ✓ Yes |
| Sunglass tint on an Rx frame | ✓ Yes (with Rx) |
| Replacement lenses for an Rx frame | ✓ Yes |
| Lucyd Pro Insurance (extended warranty) | Usually no (check your plan) |
| Accessories (charging cable, case) | No |
If you’re unsure whether your specific FSA/HSA plan covers smart eyewear with audio components, check with your plan administrator. Most major plans treat the prescription frame as standard prescription eyewear.
How to pay with FSA / HSA
Option 1: FSA / HSA card at checkout
Many FSA / HSA debit cards work as standard cards at checkout on lucyd.co. Enter the card number, expiration, and CVV at payment — most go through without issue.
If your card is declined: it usually means the plan flagged a non-medical item (e.g., a non-Rx frame). Try an Rx configuration.
Option 2: Pay with a regular card, then submit for reimbursement
Most flexible. Place your order with any payment method, then request an itemized receipt from us and submit it to your plan administrator.
To get an itemized receipt for reimbursement:
Contact us with your order number. We’ll send a PDF receipt that shows:
- Frame description + price
- Lens description + price (clearly marked “prescription”)
- Total paid
- Order date
- Lucyd’s tax ID (some plans ask for this)
Most plans approve within 1-2 weeks of submission.
Frequently asked
Do I need a prescription on file with Lucyd?
Yes — to qualify as medical eyewear, the order must include a prescription. We capture this during the order on lucyd.co.
What if my plan year is ending and I want to spend down my FSA?
Place your order now even if your lenses take 10 business days to ship — the order date is what matters for FSA reimbursement, not the delivery date.
Can I use FSA / HSA for a Lucyd Pro Insurance upgrade?
Extended warranties / protection plans are typically NOT FSA / HSA eligible. Check with your plan, but assume no.
My HSA / FSA card declined at checkout — what now?
Don’t worry. Place the order with a regular card and submit for reimbursement (option 2 above). Contact us for an itemized receipt.
